Mario, the American singer, has faced backlash after posting a video of a non-Black woman who appears to be someone he’s dating 1. The video was shared on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, December 26, and featured a woman in his passenger seat as Lauryn Hill’s “The Sweetest Thing” played in the car. The clip was captioned with heart emojis 1.

When the video was re-posted to The Neighborhood Talk, fans in the comments expressed their displeasure over the fact that the woman did not appear to be Black. Her actual race and ethnicity are currently unknown 1.

Some of the comments read:
