Luwero District, Uganda - The Luwero District Police are currently investigating a chilling murder case involving a 48-year-old Rwandan national, Nduwayesu Marie Rose. Her lifeless body was discovered at Klne Guest House in the Kizito zone of Luwero Town Council, identified by her Rwandan National Identity Card. The incident, which is believed to have occurred on Saturday, May 18, 2024, has sent shockwaves through the community.

The primary suspect, Gerald Byamugisha, is reportedly on the run. Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, reported that Byamugisha booked a room with the deceased at around 2 pm on Saturday. The pair stayed in the room for approximately three hours before Byamugisha left the premises alone, raising no immediate concerns among the staff.

The nature of the relationship between Byamugisha and the deceased remains unclear. The grim discovery was made on Sunday morning by a room attendant, who found Nduwayesu’s body facing upward, her head forced under the toilet seat, and a yellow cloth, presumably used to strangle her, tied tightly around her neck.

Upon being informed by the cleaner, Lameka Kigozi, the guest house proprietor, promptly notified the Luwero Central Police Station. The police acted swiftly, registering a murder case and securing CCTV footage to assist with the ongoing investigation. While several individuals have been detained for questioning, their identities have not been disclosed.

Mr. Twineamazima stated, “The duo stayed in the room for about three hours, and then the suspect moved out alone. Once the guest house owner informed us, we visited the scene of the crime and registered the case of murder. We have some suspects in custody to aid with investigations as we continue our search for the main suspect.”

The body of Nduwayesu was transported to Luwero Hospital’s morgue for an autopsy. This murder adds to the growing concern over crime rates in Luwero. According to the latest police crime report, the district has seen an alarming rise in criminal activity, with 90 murder cases recorded in 2023 alone. The total number of cases reported in the district surged to 4,111 in 2023, up from 3,902 in 2022 and 2,880 in the previous year.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
