A Toronto father is grieving the loss of his 3-year-old son, who died in a suspected homicide on Sunday.

Wilbert Faguada said his son, Marcos, was "perfect" and "full of life" in a Facebook post on Monday.

"He did not deserve this," Faguada wrote. "We are devastated and heartbroken."

According to Toronto police, officers responded to a call for a medical complaint at a residence on Pharmacy Avenue, near Ellesmere Road, around 2 p.m. on Sunday.

They found Marcos suffering from life-threatening injuries and rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they are treating the death as a homicide and have one person in custody. They have not released the identity of the suspect or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Faguada said he was at work when he received a call from his wife, who was at home with Marcos and their other two children.

"She told me that something happened to Marcos and that he was not breathing," Faguada said. "I rushed home and saw the police and the ambulance. They told me that they were trying to save him, but it was too late."

Faguada said he does not know what happened to his son or who is responsible.

"I don't understand why someone would do this to him," he said. "He was a happy boy who loved to play and laugh. He was always smiling and hugging us. He was our angel."

Faguada said he and his wife are originally from Honduras and moved to Canada in 2017 to seek a better life for their children.

He said Marcos was born in Canada and was looking forward to starting school next year.

"He was very smart and curious. He loved to learn new things and to watch cartoons. He liked Spider-Man and Paw Patrol. He was always singing and dancing," Faguada said.

Faguada said he is grateful for the support he has received from his family, friends, and community.

He said he hopes that justice will be done for his son and that his memory will live on.

"He was our sunshine. He was our everything. We will always love him and miss him," he said.
