Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has called on Kenyans to learn German language skills in order to take advantage of the job opportunities she is pursuing in Berlin, Germany.

Bore, who flew to Germany on Saturday, said she was following up on the bilateral talks between President William Ruto and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who met in Nairobi last month.

In a statement posted on her social media accounts on Sunday, Bore said she was optimistic that the two countries would strengthen their cooperation in various sectors, especially in labour and social protection.

"Guten Morgen! Good morning from Berlin Germany and a blessed Sunday on this chilly morning. Arrived for official duties to follow up on job opportunities initiated and discussed by President William Ruto and his counterpart German Chancellor Olaf Scholz," she wrote.

Bore added that she would meet with various stakeholders in Germany, including the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the German Development Cooperation Agency, and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

She said she would also visit some of the leading German companies and institutions that have expressed interest in hiring Kenyan workers.

"I urge all Kenyans, especially the youth, to take up the opportunity to learn German language and culture, as this will open up more doors for them in the global market. Germany is one of the most developed and innovative countries in the world, and we can benefit from their expertise and experience," she said.

Bore said the government was committed to creating more jobs for Kenyans, both locally and abroad, and to ensuring the welfare and protection of migrant workers.

She said the government had signed bilateral labour agreements with several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Japan, and was in the process of finalizing others with Canada, Poland, and South Korea.

She also said the government had established the National Employment Authority, which would facilitate the recruitment, placement, and monitoring of Kenyan workers abroad.

Bore thanked President Ruto and Chancellor Scholz for their visionary leadership and friendship, and said she looked forward to a fruitful and productive visit in Germany.
