President William Ruto has ordered New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (New KCC) to increase the prices of milk paid to farmers from Sh45 to Sh50 per litre.

The president made the directive on Wednesday during the launch of the renovated New KCC factory in Nyahururu, Laikipia County.

He said the move was aimed at boosting the income of dairy farmers and ensuring the stability of the milk sector.

“We want to ensure that our farmers get a fair return for their hard work and investment. That is why I have instructed New KCC to pay Sh50 per litre of milk to farmers, regardless of the season,” Ruto said.

He added that the government was committed to supporting the dairy industry by upgrading the infrastructure and equipment of New KCC and other milk processors.

He said the refurbished New KCC factory in Nyahururu had increased its processing capacity from 60,000 to 100,000 litres of milk per day.

He also said the factory had diversified its products to include cheese, yoghurt, butter and ghee.

Ruto urged farmers to embrace modern farming practices and increase their milk production and quality.

He also called on the county governments to work with the national government and the private sector to promote the dairy sector.

The president was accompanied by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi, Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia and several MPs from the region.
