Disney+ has acquired the exclusive rights to stream Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film for a staggering $75 million, according to sources close to the deal. The film, which documents Swift’s 2023–2024 world tour that spans all of her musical eras and albums, is expected to premiere on the streaming platform in early 2025.
The Eras Tour is Swift’s sixth concert tour and her second all-stadium tour after the 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour. It is the highest-grossing tour of all time and the first to surpass $1 billion in revenue. The tour features a set list of 44 songs grouped into 10 distinct acts that portray the albums conceptually, with elaborate stage design, costumes, pyrotechnics, dancers, and special guests. The tour has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, who praised its concept, production, aesthetics, and immersive ambience, as well as Swift’s musicianship, vocals, stage presence, and versatility.
The concert film, directed by Sam Wrench, captures the tour’s final show at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada, on December 8, 2024. The film also includes behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and commentary from Swift and her collaborators. The film has a runtime of 4 hours and 13 minutes, making it the longest concert film in history
Disney+ is reportedly paying $75 million for the film, which is the highest amount ever paid for a concert film. The deal was negotiated by Swift’s team and Disney’s executive vice president of content and marketing, Ricky Strauss. Strauss said in a statement, “We are thrilled to bring Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film to Disney+, where millions of fans around the world can enjoy this spectacular and historic event. Taylor Swift is an icon of our generation and a master storyteller who has created a unique and unforgettable musical journey. We are honored to be part of her legacy and to share her vision with our subscribers.”
Swift also expressed her excitement about the deal on social media, writing, “I can’t wait for you to see the Eras Tour concert film on Disney+! It’s been such a dream come true to perform for you all and to celebrate every era of my music with you. Thank you for making this tour the most incredible experience of my life. I love you so much!”
Swift’s Eras Tour concert film joins a growing list of exclusive musical content on Disney+, such as Hamilton, Black Is King, Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, and McCartney 3, 2, 1. Disney+ is currently available in over 60 countries and regions, with more than 116 million subscribers as of June 2021.
