The stars of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! had a close encounter with a deadly snake that slithered into their camp while they were sleeping.

The venomous reptile, known as a small-eyed snake, was spotted by the rangers who monitor the site for dangerous creatures. They quickly intervened and removed the snake before it could harm any of the celebrities.

The snake was heading towards Sam Thompson, who was blissfully unaware of the danger. The rangers managed to catch the snake without waking him or any of the other stars.

The small-eyed snake is native to the Tweed area on the Gold Coast, where the show is filmed. It is active at night and has a long-acting myotoxin that can cause muscle damage, kidney failure and even death in humans.

According to ITV, the rangers 'know exactly when they need to jump to action' and try to keep the celebrities' interactions with the crew to a minimum. The celebrities were not informed of the snake incident and continued with their daily routine.

This year's I'm A Celebrity has seen a surge in snake sightings due to the humid weather, the breeding season and the abundance of prey. The show's Health and Safety officer, Jeremy Douglas, warned the celebrities to watch where they put their hands, especially on tree trunks.

The show, which is hosted by Ant and Dec, features 12 celebrities who live in a jungle camp and face various challenges and trials. The show is in its 23rd season and airs on ITV.
