Katie Holmes, 45, and her daughter Suri Cruise, 17, looked like twins as they stepped out in New York City on Friday. The mother-daughter duo showed off their street style in coordinating gray and white ensembles, drawing attention from passersby and paparazzi.
Holmes, who recently directed the COVID-19-centered rom-com Alone Together, featuring Suri’s vocals1, wore a dark gray sweatshirt over a white T-shirt, paired with black sweatpants and Adidas sneakers. She accessorized with an orange baseball cap and a brown purse, and kept her makeup minimal.
Suri, who is pursuing a career in fashion and has been living independently from her father Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology2, rocked a light gray zip-up hoodie, white joggers, and black sneakers. She carried a canvas tote over her shoulder and wore her long brown hair loose.
The pair looked happy and relaxed as they walked side by side in the buzzy Soho neighborhood, smiling and chatting. They were also seen hailing a cab and getting into the vehicle.
Holmes and Suri share a close bond and often spend quality time together. The former Dawson’s Creek star has said that she likes to protect her daughter from the public eye, as she was exposed to fame at a young age.
“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” she told Glamour magazine earlier this month. She also described Suri as “an incredible person” and said she felt “grateful” to be her mom3.
Holmes divorced Suri’s dad, Tom Cruise, in 2012, after six years of marriage. The split was reportedly influenced by Holmes’ desire to keep Suri away from Scientology, the controversial religion that Cruise follows. A source told Page Six last month that Cruise has no part in Suri’s life and has not seen her in a long time4.
